I figured it’d been quite a while for the reader since this stuff was mentioned (almost a year), so even though it’d just been a a few weeks for the characters, I needed them to have a reason to talk about it. (Volume One takes place only over a periodof five weeks)
And conveniently Kellin’s actions here are modelled after something a real person I know does from time to time 🙂

That has to be the best excuse for explicative insertion I’ve ever seen. Certainly, it’s the funniest I can think of.
